Chase Wilson only turned 18 years old, the legal gambling age in the United Kingdom, six days ago, and he gave himself the perfect birthday present, namely a £24,950 prize! Wilson was one of 419 entrants in the £330 buy-in Big Shot, part of the 888poker LIVE Coventry festival that’s running right now at the Grosvenor G Casino.
The 419 entries resulted in a £125,700 prize pool that the top 64 finishers shared. Christopher Johnson was one of the first players to see a return on their investment. The likes of Team Grosvenor’s Katie Swift, Keith Johnson, Lee French, Leo Worthington-Leese, and Michael Rosaman joined Johnson on the rail, via the cashier’s desk, at various points of Day 2.
By the time the final table was reached, each of the finalists locked in no less than £1,800 for their efforts, with those players being eight eliminations away from boosting their bankrolls by £29,750.

Elliott Panyi was the first of the nine finalists to fall by the wayside. Panyi, who recently won a £3250 buy-in event in London for £34,942, committed his last six big blinds with king-jack of hearts, and ran into Dan Laidlaw‘s pocket kings.
A short-stacked Jack Olsen then found himself all-in with pocket sixes against the ace-jack of Dixie Dean. Olsen’s sixes remained true on the flop, but the ace of spades on the turn left Olsen drawing to two outs. The ten of clubs on the river was not one of them.
Laidlaw found pocket kings again and was all-in on the turn of the three-queen-six-ten board. Laidlaw thought he was in good shape against Dean, but Dean had turned two pair with his queen-ten. Another queen on the river gave Dean a full house, and rubbed more salt into Laidlaw’s wounds.

Having found himself with a tiny stack at one stage, 888poker Ambassador Ian Simpson climbed into the final six players in the Big Shot. However, sadly for him and his legion of fans, sixth is as deep as Simpson would progress. Simpson lost all but two big blinds in a coinflip with David Lloyd, and he moved all-in for those two bigs with pocket eights. Simpson flopped a set, but the board four-flushed with diamonds, and Dean held the king of diamonds.
Simpson collected £3,600 for his latest deep run and will undoubtedly be one to watch in the £888 buy-in Main Event that PokerNews is providing live coverage from.
The final five became four when Lloyd became the latest Dean victim. Lloyd made a move for his last nine big blinds with ace-nine, and Dean looked him up with pocket sixes. The sixes held, and Lloyd bowed out in fifth for £5,000.
Nathan Jones secured the largest live cash of his career when he banked the £7,880 fourth-place prize. Most of the damage to Jones’ stack was done when his ace-six failed to beat Brandon Sheils‘ dominating ace-queen. Jones failed to recover and crashed out soon after.

Sheils was the next player eliminated despite earlier helping himself to Jones’ stack. This is the third consecutive live cash that has resulted into a final table appearance for the in-form Sheils. He scooped £12,350 for this latest impressive result.
Dean and the young Wilson went into the one-on-one battle almost even in chips, and decided to conclude the Big Shot there and then. They agreed to split the remaining prize pool in half, each taking £24,950, and deciding the winner with a one-hand coinflip. The Poker Gods shone down on Wilson, as he won the flip, and gave himself probably the best belated birthday present of his life.
