On the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, India has switched up their strategy for a new one. They’ve benched Shubman Gill to add a sixth bowler. It’s the fourth Test in the series against Australia, and India has decided to strengthen their bowling line-up with Washington Sundar, an off-break bowler who’s also good with the bat.
Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, announced this strategy during the coin toss that he will be the opening batsman, probably with Yashasvi Jaiswal as his partner.
Thanks to this shift, KL Rahul, the most reliable hitter for India in this series, moves up to Gill’s old spot as the third batter.
The Australians won the toss and chose to bat first. It’s a move that has generally worked out for them before at the MCG.
They’ve also made two changes. One of these is bringing in Sam Konstas, the youngest Test opener in their history. India hopes that bringing in Sundar for his two-pronged skills will give them a leg up in a game where each run and wicket are critical.
As the match progresses, all eyes will be on how well this decision pans out, adding another twist to an already exciting series.
