Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is expected to reopen as soon as noon on Monday after the gaming property was shuttered temporarily due to water damage.
Pipes and a portion of the ceiling were damaged at the Caesars Entertainment casino. The incident led management to evacuate casino guests and employees.
Repairs remained underway on Sunday, according to Baltimore TV station WJZ.
The water caused a hole in the ceiling over the 122K-square-foot gaming floor. Water fell onto the floor near numerous gambling machines.
Our team is hard at work addressing the situation and we expect to reopen (Monday),” the casino said in a post on its X feed. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Details on what led to the water pipe break weren’t immediately available. There were no reports of injuries.
The casino has over 1,600 slot machines and close to 100 table games on its gaming floor.
Horseshoe Casino didn’t provide an estimate to repair the damage to the casino floor or to machines.
Prior Flooding
Other gaming properties nationwide also have been forced to close in recent years due to water damage.
In April, gambling stopped at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack following a several-day closure due to flooding. The casino was forced to shutter after waters from the nearby Ohio River overwhelmed the area, including the Wheeling, WV casino complex. Poker play and the 151-room hotel were forced to close as well.
In July 2022 flash flooding in Las Vegas caused damage to several well-known gaming properties, including Planet Hollywood, Circa, and Caesars Palace.
Horseshoe Casino Upgrade
Two years ago, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore underwent a major overhaul in hopes of reversing its financial struggles.
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is one of Maryland’s three full-scale casinos, with MGM National Harbor and Live! being the other two. The state’s three other casinos — Hollywood Perryville, Ocean Downs in Berlin, and Rocky Gap in Flintstone — are smaller resort-style casinos.
The Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is located near M&T Bank Stadium, home of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, and Camden Yards, home of MLB’s Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is also located nearby.
