The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2025 is set on 24th and 25th November. But some well-known England players won’t be on the list. Eye-catching omissions include Jofra Archer, Joe Root, and Mark Wood. However, old hand James Anderson is in, which adds a bit of spice to the 2025 IPL auction mix.
Now, what’s the IPL Auction about? It’s an annual gathering where ten IPL teams bid on players. They’ll play for them in the coming season. The players are on a list, and teams with openings bid on them. The goal of the auction is to put together the best team the franchise can. It makes the tournament exciting and adds a strategic layer for teams needing to fill some spots. This year, the long players’ list, initially at 1,574, is down to 574 after back and forth with IPL teams. Many of the shortlisted players hope for selection, eager to show off their skills at this glamorous and well-known cricket event. But, some players like Archer will find the IPL harder to get into.

IPL Auction 2025: Key England Players Included
Jofra Archer’s omission from the IPL auction list has sparked a curious response. This comes after his meteoric rise of 2020 when he clinched the IPL’s MVP title. Battling a slew of injuries, including back and elbow problems, Archer returned to white-ball cricket in 2023. Yet, he was not on the 2025 auction list. It’s uncertain if Archer willingly withdrew from the auction or was omitted from the list. Still, missing out is conspicuous, given Archer’s keen interest in resuming Test cricket. However, achieving this might require him to play Championship cricket for Sussex, conflicting with the IPL timetable.
If Archer turns his focus to red-ball cricket, his IPL prospects for 2025 might wane, with the tournament generally starting in March and lasting through May. The IPL 2025 auction list includes recognized England names. Leading the England-qualified players is Jos Buttler, the white-ball captain, with a top reserve cost of about £187,000. Along with Buttler, leading white-ball regulars like Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow, and Sam Curran are included, and their participation in the IPL auction is keenly expected. Another important absence to note is of Mark Wood, who is off the list after being sidestepped.
Even so, players such as Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali are expected to grab ample interest. The popularity of England’s white-ball cricketers is apparent, credited to their commendable performances in all formats.
