Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po want to rage with you all night long.
On Friday night, June 21, “House of Teletubbies: Tubbyland Rave” will explode onto the dancefloor at the Portal, inside the off-Strip Gen Z entertainment mecca known as AREA 15.
The special event is described in a news release alternately as “a whimsical journey filled with hypnotic beats and dazzling visuals” and “a colorful wonderland complete with immersive light shows, pulsating music and interactive elements that will keep attendees dancing all night long.”
Which description you prefer to believe is up to you.
“The Teletubbies” — in case you weren’t a toddler or a mildly annoyed toddler’s parent from 1997 to 2001 — was an inexplicably successful BBC children’s show starring a gaggle of plush, colorful, and rounded young humanoids with antennae jutting from their heads, silver monitors affixed to their tummies, and no firm command of any known language.
Its audience is 23-27 years old now, so a rave makes perfect sense.
“AREA15 is at the forefront of revolutionizing the rave experience by introducing themed events that blend nostalgia, creativity and immersive entertainment,” said Noah Kessler, AREA15’s head of entertainment. “Our themed raves offer a distinctive and engaging way for guests to connect with beloved characters and stories while enjoying a high-energy nightlife atmosphere.”
Judging from his uptightly worded corporate-speak, it doesn’t sound as though Mr. Kessler will be among the ravers raging all night at the Tubbyland Rave.
Anyone 18 years or older can attend, though ID for 21 is required to drink. And that’s all fine, because no one under age 23 will get what the fuss is about anyway.
Tubbyland will convene inside The Portal from 9 p.m. Friday, June 21 through to 1 a.m. Saturday, June 22. General admission tickets, starting at $17.95, are available here.
Ketamine sold separately (probably).
