Ahead of National Telephone Day we have revealed the most popular mobile apps in the UK in the past year.
Phones have become an integral part of modern-day life, with some apps being the main reason most of us spend so much time on our phones. Whether they are social media, messaging or entertainment apps, millions of people around the world use these apps every day. So, with National Telephone Day coming up on the 25th of April, have you ever wondered which are the most popular apps in the UK?
Well, to discover this, online casino Betway utilised the consumer research tool Brandwatch to analyse some of the most used apps in the UK in order to reveal which are the most popular apps in the country and across some of the UK’s major cities based on their total amount of online mentions over the past 12 months.

The research revealed that X (Twitter) is by far the most popular app in the UK, amounting over 3.23 billion mentions online this past year, ahead of YouTube in second place with 2.93 billion online mentions and Instagram with 1.36 billion online mentions.
The controversial social media app TikTok ranks in 6th place with 832 million online mentions, with the more established Facebook ranks 4th with just under 1.2 billion online mentions.
Methodology:
Through initial desk research, 20 of the most used apps in the UK were gathered and then analysed through the consumer research tool Brandwatch in order to reveal the total number of online mentions for each app since April 2023.
The apps were then ranked based on their total number of online mentions, revealing which apps are the most popular both in the UK and across various UK cities.
