A man was knifed while in an alley very close to Las Vegas’ Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower early Friday. He died a short time later.
Minutes before the attack, the victim had been inside the Circle K convenience store on South Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.
He left the store and went to his car, before driving a short distance.
He parked the vehicle on the street near West Cleveland Avenue and got out of the car. The man started to walk on the sidewalk and for some reason headed into the alley.
Argument Breaks Out
At that point, he began to argue with another person. Tension escalated and the assailant stabbed the man at least once with an unidentified object. The stabber then fled the area.
The critically-injured victim was discovered by an employee of the Circle K. The worker called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) at 2:02 a.m.
Police officers and an ambulance crew rushed to the scene and attended to the man.
Initial treatment was given at the crime scene. The victim was promptly transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Doctors there attempted to save his life, but he was declared deceased on Friday morning, according to Las Vegas TV station KVVU.
The victim was not identified. He was described as being in his 30s.
Store, Street Closed
The Circle K near the crime site and portions of Cleveland Avenue were temporarily closed early Friday while LVMPD officers investigated the killing.
Operations were not impacted at the Strat, which is about a third of a mile from the Circle K.
The stabbing appeared to be an isolated incident, and police said there was no danger to the general public. Police didn’t reveal what may have caused the argument between the two men.
LVMPD officers immediately began searching for a suspect. They spoke to the convenience store employee and searched for other witnesses.
They also looked for physical evidence in the area. So far, there’s no word if officers found the weapon used to stab the victim. Police didn’t reveal if it was a knife or another object.
It’s likely officers will check surveillance video from the Strat and other nearby businesses to help identify the suspect. No one had been arrested shortly after the homicide.
As of early Friday, LVMPD officers and homicide detectives had yet to release a description of the suspect. It didn’t appear that anyone else was involved in the stabbing.
