According to the team sources, Shreyas Iyer is the appointed Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The club released a statement on Monday to officially inform the eager fans.
Avid cricket fans and pundits alike agree with this move. Furthermore, social media is buzzing with new energy that we will likely see in the team’s effort. Eye on the prize!!
During IPL 2020, Iyer, as captain of the Delhi Capitals, took the team’s inaugural IPL final.
The 30-year middle-order batsman is among a handful of captains that have won the IPL so far. Iyer made his debut in IPL 2015 through DC and KKR. That’s not all; halfway through IPL 2018, DC appointed Iyer as a captain, and the team made it to the playoffs in the following consecutive years, with a runner-up title in 2020.
Furthermore, Iyer’s role in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was equally noticeable. A total of 345 runs, including a century, in nine innings at a strike rate of 188.52 and an average of over 49.
