Betway’s research in each state and key Canadian city shows how positive each set of supporters are feeling ahead of this years Super Bowl.
As the countdown to Super Bowl 2025 continues, fans from across the globe are taking to social media to cheer on their favourite teams. Here at Betway, we used Brandwatch to analyse social media sentiment in each state and key Canadian cities for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here’s what the data revealed for the US:
With the Super Bowl just around the corner, social media has become a battleground for fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Over the past week, posts from every state reflect both teams’ reach and how positive each set of supporters are feeling.
Unsurprisingly, Texas leads in sheer volume of Chiefs-related posts, boasting a staggering 36,000, while Pennsylvania, home of the Eagles, generated an impressive 4,017 posts for their team. Missouri, the Chiefs’ home state, recorded 1,632 posts, with 13% showing positive sentiment.
Here’s how that map of the United States looks going into Sunday’s game.
The Eagles – who are second-favourites in the Super Bowl betting markets to win the Super Bowl – saw strong support in New Jersey and Delaware, with high post volumes of 1,153 and 126, respectively, despite being relatively smaller states. Sentiment-wise, Idaho emerged as a surprising outlier, with 42% of posts favouring the Eagles — the highest positivity percentage for either team.
Interestingly, states like South Dakota and Vermont showcased overwhelming Chiefs’ support in both volume and positivity. South Dakota recorded 360 Chiefs posts, 24% of which were positive, while Vermont leaned heavily toward the Chiefs, with 1,674 posts at 13% positivity.
While the Chiefs dominate in post volume across most states, the Eagles enjoy a significant following in Pennsylvania and neighbouring regions. Star names such as Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes will have undoubtedly helped shine more of the spotlight onto the Chiefs, but it appears as though it’s the Eagles fanbase who have been more positive about their side as they continue to hope this underdog story has one last twist in the tale.
The Taylor Swift Connection
Taylor Swift, Pennsylvania native and one of the most influential cultural figures today, seems to be adding a unique twist to the Super Bowl sentiment battle. Pennsylvania shows 13% positive sentiment for the Eagles, aligning with her upbringing in the state and the pride it inspires among locals. However, Swift is currently dating Travis Kelce, star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Could Swift’s enormous fanbase, the Swifties, be playing a role in boosting the Chiefs’ sentiment across the country? With Kansas showing 22% positive sentiment and other states like South Dakota (24%) and Georgia (24%) displaying strong Chiefs loyalty her influence could be helping Kansas City’s popularity surge. The unique overlap between Swift’s cultural reach and Kelce’s athletic stardom adds an exciting subplot to the Super Bowl 2025 narrative.
Here’s what the data revealed for Canada:
While the Kansas City Chiefs have a strong following, it’s clear that the Philadelphia Eagles are dominating the hearts and minds of Canadian fans this year. From Toronto to Calgary, every major city we analysed shows a higher volume of posts and more positive sentiment for the Eagles.
Calgary stands out with an overwhelming 26% positive sentiment for the Eagles, compared to just 12% for the Chiefs. Toronto, the city with the most activity, shows a massive lean toward the Eagles as well, with over five times as many posts for Philadelphia. Even Montreal, where the numbers are closer, tips slightly in favour of the Eagles in terms of positivity. Perhaps it’s their underdog story this season or their dynamic playstyle, but one thing is clear: Canadian football fans are all in for Philadelphia.
As we gear up for the big game, it will be fascinating to see how this translates into game-day support and wagers. Whether you’re an Eagles fan, a Chiefs supporter, or just here for the love of the sport, one thing’s for sure—Super Bowl 2025 is set to be a spectacle.
