The man fatally shot by a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officer at the South Point Hotel this month had been charged earlier in California.
Two days before the December 8 shooting, Cesar Reyes II, 26, of Indio, Calif., was charged on suspicion of possession of child pornography, according to Las Vegas TV station KTNV.
He was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center. Reyes posted a $30K bond and headed to Las Vegas.
While at Las Vegas’ South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, Reyes’ relatives alerted hotel security after family members spotted an apparent suicide note at his California residence.
When attempting to enter the hotel room, security guards heard what sounded like a gun being racked. They backed away from the door.
Local police were notified and also couldn’t convince him to open the door. The department sent a SWAT team and specialized negotiators.
After attempts failed to get him to surrender, SWAT team members eventually deployed explosives to open the hotel room door. At that point, Reyes charged at LVMPD officers who were in a hallway.
Reyes refused to drop a shotgun. That led LVMPD Officer Zachary Adam to shoot Reyes. He perished from a single wound.
Later, it was revealed the shotgun he was holding had no bullets, police said. He also was armed with a second firearm which was described as a handgun, according to police.
Under routine LVMPD procedures in an officer-involved shooting, there will be a review to see if the use of deadly force was justified by the officer.
No officers nor other guests were injured, according to KTNV.
The arrest resulted in Reyes reportedly being placed on administrative leave from his job as a probation officer in California’s Riverside County.
Attempted Sex Assault at Nevada Casino

When she left a restroom, Corgan allegedly attempted to grope her. The victim struck him in self-defense. Corgan suffered injuries on his face, according to the Elko Daily Free Press, a local news outlet.
Corgan was placed in custody. His bail was set at $5K and the case was turned over to local prosecutors.
Foxwoods Garage Site of Christmas Fire
A car caught on fire in Foxwoods Resort Casino’s Fox Tower Garage on Christmas.
The blaze was brought under control and extinguished quickly, according to Connecticut TV station WTIC.
Casino operations weren’t impacted due to the fire. The casino and the garage remained open.
Crews responded from the Mashantucket fire and police departments, as well as departments in nearby Ledyard and North Stonington.
“The health and safety of our guests, team members and tribal community is our top priority,” Lori Potter, a Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation spokeswoman, said in a statement.
There were no reports of injuries. No damage estimate was released. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
