WHAT WENT RIGHT …
Lane Kiffin and the Rebels have made a habit out of signing the best Mississippi prospects each year. That trend continued for a third-consecutive recruiting cycle as elite in-state WR Caleb Cunningham flipped to the Rebels in November.
Cunningham’s flip to Ole Miss was followed by four-star OL Devin Harper, who flipped from LSU; and three-star DB Dante Core, who flipped from Auburn. Ole Miss also added four-star WR Winston Watkins at the buzzer on National Signing Day for a top-15 haul.
WHAT WENT WRONG …
Kiffin could not overcome Auburn in the Deuce Knight sweepstakes. Mississippi’s top-ranked quarterback flipped from Notre Dame to Auburn midway through his senior season at Lucedale (Miss.) George County High. Despite a full-court press by the Rebels, Knight elected to ink with the Tigers.
The Rebels also failed to sign four-star LB Tyler Lockhart, who flipped to and from Ole Miss before signing with Mississippi State. Ole Miss also came up just short for four-star RB Raycine Guillory, who inked with Utah on National Signing Day.
PARTING PREDICTION
Prediction: Caleb Cunningham will be a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award during his run at Ole Miss.
The No. 29 overall prospect in the Rivals250, Cunningham brings size, ball skills and game-breaking ability to the Rebels’ offense unlike any other prospect in this class. In terms of perfect matches, it’s hard to rival the combination of Kiffin and Cunningham.
