On Tuesday, the Westgate announced that Barry Manilow has accepted its offer of the first “lifetime residency” in the history of Las Vegas.
“I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to call Westgate home for the rest of my career,” Manilow said in a press release that announced the milestone without really explaining what it is.
Does a lifetime residency mean that no one else will get to appear in the Westgate’s main showroom while Manilow is alive? We don’t think so. Or does it merely signify that the Westgate will make the joint available whenever it’s free — which they’ve already done for Manilow since February 2005?
Maybe it’s a promise from the guy who writes the songs never to enter negotiations to appear at another Vegas venue — in which case it’s more of an honor for the Westgate than for him.
Regardless, we think that Manilow is certainly deserving of this honor, whatever it is, even if it would have held much more meaning 20 years ago, when he wasn’t already in his 80s.
Two Pair
Longtime collaborators Kendrick Lamar and SZA have announced that their second co-headlining tour, “Grand National,” will play Allegiant Stadium on May 31. The pair previously toured together on “The Championship Tour,” which played the T-Mobile Arena in June 2018.
The news arrives less than two weeks after Lamar released his sixth album, “GNX,” which debuted, and remains, at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It features SZA on two tracks: “Luther” and “Gloria.”
The general on sale starts 10 a.m. PT Friday, December 6 via Ticketmaster. A presale for Cash App Visa Card holders begins Wednesday.
A more unlikely pairing will see Toni Braxton perform live with comedian Cedric the Entertainer at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan. (They don’t perform together. Braxton opens.)
Seen six times last summer at the same venue, the “Love & Laughter” residency returns six more times next year: February 14-15, May 9-10, and July 11-12. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, December 6 via Ticketmaster.
Fallout: New Vegas: The Album?
The Pioneer Saloon, which hosts the annual Fallout Fan Celebration in Goodsprings, a tiny former mining town about 40 miles southwest of Vegas, has released an album of songs paying tribute to the soundtrack from “Fallout: New Vegas.” The video game, one of the most popular in history, is set in Goodsprings, using the Pioneer and other real-life landmarks (and local residents).
“Pioneer Saloon: The Fallout Era” is available on all digital music platforms or on CD via the Pioneer’s online store.
