Former New Zealand player, Craig Cumming, has been appointed as the Blaze’s chief mentor. This appointment comes ahead of their inaugural season in England’s Premier 1 women’s league, under Nottinghamshire. This development brings a thrilling new phase for both Cumming and the Blaze, given their previous achievements.
With a rich coaching background, Cumming helped New Zealand’s Otago Sparks clinch two Hallyburton Johnstone 50-over titles within a span of four years. His leadership turned the Sparks into a winning team in New Zealand’s women’s cricket scene. Cumming will link up with the Blaze in early 2025, post the Super Smash T20 competition in New Zealand.
“It’s an honor and privilege to take up the role of the Blaze’s head coach,” commented Cumming. “I’m familiar with some of the team members and staff, having met them during my trips to the UK in recent years. Everyone here adheres to top-notch standards, and I am thrilled to join an impressive group of professionals. I’m eager to add to the team’s already notable success record.”
Craig Cumming steps in as the new leader of the Blaze cricket team, replacing Chris Guest. Guest led the team to their first trophy in the Charlotte Edwards Cup last season. But then, he left to coach England Women’s Under-19s. It’s a significant change for the Blaze but it’s also a chance for them to grow. They can build on the successes of the past two seasons while moving in a new direction.

James Cutt, who directs cricket for the Blaze, was happy about Cumming joining the team. Cutt said, “Craig has had a lot of success as a coach before. He’s done really good work with Otago in New Zealand’s women’s cricket scene. We searched all over the world to find the best person for the job. Craig rose to the top.”
Cutt is especially excited about the team’s mix of young talents and experienced players. He believes that having more games to play in 2025 will be a great chance for the team to grow and for Cumming to show off his talents.
