The Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is expected to rejoin the Australian Test squad on Tuesday. He had to take a brief trip back to India due to personal commitments. This happened right after India’s big win in Perth, Australia. They won the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a whopping 295 runs.
In his absence, other key staff members stepped in. Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel helped prepare the team. They played a two-day game against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra. It turned into a short game because of rain. But, India won! Harshit Rana and Shubman Gill were the star players. Everyone’s excited now that Gambhir is back! The team is ready for the next game. The second Test is expected to be a thrilling night game in Adelaide. The date is set for December 6.
Gambhir’s return kickstarts with setting the Adelaide Test’s playing XI. Team selection talks heat up as captain Rohit Sharma comes back post missing Perth Test for personal matters. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah led the team to win then. The panel selecting India’s team will also consider Shubman Gill’s comeback. He had to skip the first match due to a thumb fracture during practice.

This adds another layer to decision-making, especially about India’s top-order. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul made a strong case for themselves with their double-century opening in Perth’s second innings. Gambhir and the selectors might pull Gill into the lineup. If so, the young batter could replace Devdutt Padikkal and bat third. Rohit Sharma’s reentry might adjust him to a mid-order position, potentially following Virat Kohli.
