With the Dallas Cowboys, led by backup quarterback Cooper Rush set to face off against Tommy DeVito’s New York Giants on Thanksgiving, we wanted to see which states were the most tired of watching “America’s Team on Turkey Day.
As well as spending time with loved ones, eating turkey and other delicious foods, Thanksgiving is for football. Three NFL regular season matchups take place on the holiday every year with the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions always featuring.
While the Lions, under head coach Dan Campbell, have been one of the more entertaining teams in the league over the last year, the Cowboys’ form has been inconsistent and their start to the 2024 regular season has been especially poor.
With this in mind, we wanted to look at which states are suffering from “Cowboys fatigue” when it comes to Thanksgiving.
Using a social listening tool to analyze online negative sentiment in each state on posts including both the Cowboys and Thanksgiving, it was found that Ohio was the state most tired of watching the Cowboys on Turkey Day. Overall, Cowboys related Thanksgiving posts in the last 12 months had a whopping negative sentiment score of 68%.
Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin and Louisiana were the other states to also have a negative online sentiment score of 60% or over when it came to posts mentioning the Cowboys and Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile Pennsylvania ranking in the top 10 should surprise very few football fans. The state is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, with the latter being the Cowboys’ fierce divisional rivals.
Speaking of NFC East rivals, New Jersey was also ranked as a top 10 state which is over watching the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving. The Garden State is technically home to another one of Dallas’ heated divisional rivals, the New York Giants.
When switching attention to where the Giants consider home is, it might be a little surprising to see that New York is not among the top 20 states tired of watching the Boys while tucking into their turkey. The Empire State ranks 22nd with a negative online sentiment score of 36%.
