Two gloomy, wet days made way for a bright Monday at the India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur. The sun wasn’t the only thing shining – India’s team did too. They batted like champions, stopping only at a staggering 285 for 9 in a mere 34.4 overs. Bangladesh lagged behind, ending Day 3 with a 26-run deficit. The Indian team showed power with their bats, control over the ball, and a keen eye in the field. A tough day for Bangladesh!
India vs Bangladesh : India’s Record-Breaking Batting Performance
After a rain delay, India seized the chance to showcase their offensive skills. The swift half-centuries by Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul led the charge as India shattered several records – quickest accumulations of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in men’s Test history. Jaiswal’s approach was notably forceful, reaching his half-century in a mere 31 balls. He ruled the initial bout, putting Bangladesh’s bowlers, particularly Hasan Mahmud, under immense pressure.
KL Rahul matched in intensity, racing to his quickest Test fifty in 33 balls. He leveraged both sweeps and reverse sweeps, troubling Bangladesh’s spinners. Following Jaiswal and Rahul’s lead, the rest of the Indian batters joined the attack. Rohit Sharma transferred his excellent limited-overs form to the Test ring, smacking two sixes with his first two hits. Even though he succumbed to a fantastic ball from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rohit’s strategy echoed the assertive nature that marked India’s performance.

Mehidy and Shakib Shine for Bangladesh
India’s batsmen put on a show, but Bangladesh’s bowlers, notably Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, didn’t back down. Both bowlers got four players out each, with Mehidy using the high-spin conditions to unsettle India’s middle lineup. Despite an early exit in the first run for Bangladesh, Shakib remained a nuisance for India. His swift, sliding throws took out key players, including Virat Kohli, who was starting to get in the groove.
Kohli was out, trying for a big hit against Shakib – the ball slipped right through his guard. After the tea break, India played bold cricket, which led to quick outs, dropping from 269/5 to 284/9. But the quick run collection had already put India in a powerful spot when Rohit Sharma called off the inning.
India’s Bowlers Dominate Bangladesh
India’s bowlers sprang into action, swiftly piercing Bangladesh’s ranks after they called their innings. Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep kept on strong, Bumrah outplaying Mushfiqur Rahim with a lethal bowl that clipped an inside edge. Bumrah’s precision applied constant tension. Bangladesh’s top order couldn’t establish a smooth pace.
Rohit Sharma’s assertive leadership, lining up three slips and two gullies, paid off, earning India crucial wickets. Mohammed Siraj’s superb mid-off catch took out Shakib Al Hasan, while Zakir Hasan lbw and Hasan Mahmud, acting as a temporary nightwatchman, faltered against Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling. At the day’s end, Bangladesh sat at 26 for 2 in the second play, still needing 26 runs to catch up with India. Shadman Islam held out, ending his turn at 7*, despite an early missed opportunity. India’s bowling team ended the day with an edge, challenging Bangladesh to climb a steep hill on the final day.

Mominul’s Resilient Century
Despite bumps on the road, Mominul Haque rose to the occasion with a powerful century in the initial innings. His impressive 107* remained unmatched for Bangladesh, exhibiting excellent skill on a challenging field. Mominul cleverly navigated against India’s spinners and took advantage of any slight mishaps to score his 13th Test century, his second when not playing at home.
Mominul’s teamwork with Mehidy Hasan Miraz brought much-needed scores for Bangladesh. Although India’s bowlers put the pressure on Bangladesh’s lower order, they buckled under it. Bangladesh’s last seven wickets were lost for 121 runs, giving India a key lead in the first innings.
