England fell just short in the last European Championships, losing in the final to Italy on penalties, but they are favourites to go one better in Germany this summer and secure their first major trophy since 1966.
Gareth Southgate’s men get their final preparations underway with a home friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park on Monday night.
The visitors failed to qualify for Euro 2024 after a dismal campaign and look unlikely to cause many issues for this England team.

England set to dominate
England have made qualifying for major tournaments a comfortable habit under Southgate, something that was not previously the case.
They breezed through their group, taking 20 points from a possible 24 and have also landed a fairly easy section at the tournament proper, facing Slovenia, Serbia and Denmark.
They will still want to get their preparations off to the best possible start, however, and they should be able to do so against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The visitors finished second bottom of qualifying Group J after losing seven of their 10 games.
The only positives for them to take were a pair of wins over minnows Liechtenstein and a 3-0 victory against Iceland.
They did reach the play-offs thanks to their Nations League performances but were then beaten comfortably by Ukraine.
Sergej Barbarez has arrived as their new manager and this is a steep learning curve for him as he faces the Euro 2024 favourites.
Southgate has gone for a more attacking England squad than in previous years and if there is any time to demonstrate he has thrown the shackles off it is against this Bosnia team.
The away side have conceded 13 times in their last four games and England are fancied to overcome a two-goal deficit on the handicap.
Mainoo could continue hot streak
Another young player who has impressed this season is Kobbie Mainoo, who looks like he will make England’s final squad despite playing just 25 Premier League games in his young career.
The midfielder scored five goals in all competitions for Manchester United, which included scoring what turned out to be the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, and he could be overpriced to get his first for his country here.
