“He called a raise with queen-ten, honey!” You may remember Phil Hellmuth’s epic rant during the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event after losing a big pot to Adam Levy, which saw Levy’s queen-ten making a straight against Hellmuth’s set of eights.
More than 15 years later and Hellmuth’s opponents are still beating him with queen-ten. The latest offense took place during a $10,000 tournament on Hustler Casino Live on Monday night headlined by Hellmuth and influencer Bryce Hall.
On the money bubble with four players left, Hellmuth raised with A♠9♦ as the first player to act before facing with a jam by Austin Arnold of Altcoin Daily in the big blind with Q♠10♣. Despite facing some speech play, Hellmuth mulled it over and called to put himself at risk.
Queen-Ten, Honey!
Hellmuth was ahead with ace-high and stayed in front after the J♣6♠2♥ flop, but the Q♦ turn gave Arnold a big lead as the 2♣ confirmed The Poker Brat’s exit.
Unlike when he lost to Levy in 2008, Hellmuth kept his composure after missing out on a payday of at least $18,000. Still, he couldn’t help himself from sharing some words.
“I’m the pro. I always have the best hand when the money goes in,” Hellmuth said before leaving the table.
Arnold was the one who earned the $18,000 payday as he fell in third before a heads-up battle between professional fighter Luke Rockhold and poker streamer Jeff Gross. Rockhold finished runner-up for $27,000 as Gross secured the victory for $45,000.
