Josh Tongue, an England cricket squad seamer, could miss a lot of the home summer because of an injury to his pectoral muscle.
He played his first Test last summer, but hasn’t played since August. Hence, he missed England’s white-ball tour of the Caribbean and the Test series in India.
To quote England, they said, “Josh has had a setback to his original injury.”
There is no set date for when he will return to work.
The hurt tongue makes it harder for England to plan for what will happen after James Anderson retires.
The 41-year-old, has taken more wickets than anyone else in England’s history. He will stop after the first Test against West Indies at Lord’s on July 10.
It would have been good for Tongue, who was one of the officially contracted fast bowlers, when Anderson left.
Tongue played his first game for England against Ireland in June of last year and did well enough to play in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. As England cricket squad in his two games, he has got 10 wickets.
He moved from Worcestershire to Nottinghamshire over the winter, but he hasn’t played for his new country yet.
Jimmy Anderson’s Final Test Against West Indies Marks Farewell to International Cricket
The other contracted fast bowlers who are expected to join Anderson in England’s pace attack are Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Matthew Potts, Gus Atkinson, and maybe even Ollie Robinson.
England’s managing director Rob Key talked about Tongue’s Notts teammates Dillon Pennington and Olly Stone on the Test Match Special County Cricket show last week. He also talked about Essex’s Sam Cook.
