Moving onwards, Ranji Trophy matches will have four-days gap instead of 3, in order to help players handle their workload better. Furthermore, to cut down on weather delays, the event will be held in two parts, primarily to avoid fog in north India in the winter.

No more flipping coin
The traveling team in the Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy will no longer have to flip the coin; instead, they will choose whether to bat or bowl.
In addition, points will be given based on the number of runs scored and wickets taken.
If the trial in the age-group competition goes well. Ranji Trophy will undertake this point system starting with the 2025–26 season. A motivational effort for the teams to go for clear wins.
The Cricket Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) proposed this recently. As usual, Jay Shah, the president of the BCCI, said Apex Council will review these ideas for approval.
Shah emphasized the newly added day gap rule(if approved) will help cricketers playing Ranji Trophy relax in between games.
Shah said, “There will be more time between games to give players enough time to recover and keep up their peak performance throughout the season.”
Moreover, Shah added, the new points system will make Under-23 results more even. A lot of Under-23 games ended in four rounds last season, which was a worrying trend for the BCCI.
New points system for Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy
“The CK Nayudu Trophy will use a new points system is to encourage teams to play fairly.”
This includes giving points for hitting and bowling in the first innings. As well as points for leading or winning the first innings outright, Shah said.
“The team that is coming in will get to pick whether to bat or bowl first.” At the end of the season, the new points system’s success will be reviewed again.
“A choice will be made about whether to use it in the next season of the Ranji Trophy,” Shah said.
Shardul Thakur, the India fast bowler, talked about the hardship of having only three days off.
“It is very hard for domestic players… to expect them to play 10 games in a row with only three days off, especially if the team makes it to the final.” “The schedule is getting tighter and tighter,” Thakur said after the semifinals of the previous season.
Moving on, the Cricket Committee wants the Ranji Trophy to start in October. They wish to begin with five games before taking a break. This will cut down on weather-related delays in the winter.
Hence, after the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the rest of the league games and the final stage will happen.
In north India, matches are cut short with winter incoming. This is because in December, there is fog and bad lighting. An early start and a later second part is being considered as a solution.
Shah said, “The Indian domestic calendar will start with the Duleep Trophy, then the Irani Trophy, and finally the Ranji Trophy. The Ranji Trophy will start with five rounds of league matches, then the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and finally the Vijay Hazare Trophy.”

Its members are India men’s head coach Rahul Dravid, National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman and men’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Also, in the group are former India pacer Abey Kuruvilla, who is now the BCCI general manager for domestic cricket. However, as discussed above for this to happen, they need the OK of the BCCI Apex Council.
There has also been a lot of talk that the BCCI might want to raise the match fees of local players. Also, along with the match fees of contracted Test cricketers.
As of now, there aren’t any plans to move forward right now. Nonetheless, talks are still going on at the state level about the chance of central contracts.
