As part of England’s tentative T20 World Cup squad, Chris Jordan has been called up to the white-ball setup, replacing Chris Woakes.
End of an era for some players
Woakes has been a constant presence in England’s limited-overs squad. Particularly with the new ball in their 2019 ODI and 2022 T20I World Cup victories. In many respects, his omission, combined with Ben Stokes’ decision to withdraw from consideration, represents the end of an era.
Woakes has yet to play for Punjab Kings in the IPL this season.
Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer inclusion in T20 World Cup cricket squad.
Jofra Archer is also included, getting ready to make his competitive cricket comeback. Since his final England game in May 2023, he has been recovering from an elbow injury that kept him out of action for almost a year.
Whereas, Archer hasn’t had it easy getting back. Since 2021, he’s had stress fractures, elbow issues that never go away, and even surgery from a freak fish tank mishap.
Jordan has 88 Twenty20 international caps along with Archer and uncapped Lancashire left arm spinner Tom Hartley. Despite his recent absence from the England team, seasoned all-rounder Chris Jordan was able to keep his place in the squad; his previous international participation was in September 2023. He is a great fielder and a competent death bowler.
Furthermore, Archer has been deemed healthy after recovering from a right elbow ailment that had kept him out of the game since May 2023. The second frontline spinner chosen was Hartley, who gained notoriety earlier this year. His maiden Test series against India saw him take 22 wickets.

England cricket squad for twenty20 World Cup
Jos Buttler will lead the hitters for the reigning champions, with Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow in the top order. Together with seasoned all-rounder Moeen Ali, Ben Duckett will provide the team some left-handed variety.
The team’s lower order firepower will come from Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran, while Adil Rashid will spearhead the spin attack with Tom Hartley at his side.
Tom Hartley, the Lancashire spinner made his Test debut in India in January. However, he has yet to play for England in the shortest format. He has been preferred over Rehan Ahmed.
Hartley and Will Jacks, are only two players in the cricket squad who have never competed in either the T20 or ODI World Cups.
Jacks is one of several English players now competing in the Indian Premier League, all of whom will be forced to exit the competition before the play-offs.
