Our tips for Sunday’s huge North London Derby include a win for the Gunners with an in-form forward getting on the scoresheet.
Arsenal’s title challenge resumes with a huge north London derby showdown against Tottenham on Sunday.
The Gunners, buoyed by their stunning 5-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday and Liverpool’s defeat at Everton the following day, head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium full of confidence.
They can extend their lead at the top with another victory and further underline their title credentials while putting a dent in Spurs’ top-four ambitions in the process.
Arsenal have got back on track following defeats to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich with impressive back-to-back wins, and they can make it three in a row in Sunday’s derby.
Spurs lost 4-0 at Newcastle last time out and, even though they have had a fortnight to prepare for Arsenal’s visit, the Lilywhites look set to struggle against Mikel Arteta’s title chasers.
Selections:
Arsenal to win
5/6
Kai Havertz anytime goalscorer
6/4
Over 3.5 goals
23/20
Gunners to shoot down rivals
Arsenal produced arguably their best performance of the season at exactly the right time when they destroyed Chelsea on Tuesday, and the 5-0 home win should set them up perfectly for a trip to their nearest neighbours.
The mood Arteta’s men seem to be in suggests they will have too much for an inconsistent Tottenham side with the Gunners’ midfield again likely to set the tempo and dictate matters.
It’s not just in the middle of the park where they have looked good, though, as Arsenal’s defence continues to be very solid, while in attack KaI Havertz is enjoying himself as the Gunners’ focal point, taking his league tally to 11 for the campaign with a brace against Chelsea.
Spurs still have plenty to play for themselves. Fourth place remains a realistic target as they are six points adrift of Aston Villa with two games in hand, but they cannot afford any further mishaps.
Their dismal defeat at Newcastle was particularly worrying and wasn’t the first time in recent weeks where they have failed to compete – March’s 3-0 reverse at Fulham was another poor display.
With Arsenal appearing primed to push City all the way in the title race, the Gunners can secure the derby bragging rights with another eye-catching victory.
Happy Havertz backed for more goals
Kai Havertz looks happy and settled at Arsenal at present and helped see off his former club Chelsea with a double in midweek.
The Germany international is receiving plenty of good service and has weighed in with a valuable 12 goals and five assists in all competitions for the Gunners this season.
In his past six appearances the 24-year-old has registered 15 shots, 10 of which have been on target, so, at 6/4, he looks an enticing option in the anytime goalscorer market.
Entertainment expected
Over 3.5 goals has been a winning bet in three of the last five north London derbies and another entertaining scuffle could be in the offing on Sunday.
Arsenal showcased all their attacking prowess against Chelsea and have an abundance of talent playing at the peak of their powers right now. Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard are just three Gunners ably assisting the aforementioned Havertz in their title pursuit.
Spurs’ last two league games have both produced four goals, albeit in different circumstances with Ange Postecoglou’s men following a 3-1 home win over Nottingham Forest 3-1 with their horror show on Tyneside.
It would not be a surprise to see plenty of goals again in a dominant performance from an Arsenal side intent on making up for last year’s disappointment and claiming the Premier League’s top prize.
