Suffolk, New York police say that two masked gunmen robbed a poker game at a Long Island residence on Easter Sunday.
Investigators indicated to Newsday they believe the suspects, neither of whom have been identified, targeted the Greenbriar Lane property. One person, who also hasn’t been identified, was shot but is expected to survive.
Targeted Poker Game
According to police, two masked suspects entered the home during a private poker game — the stakes and buy-ins are unknown — and stole cash, jewelry, cell phones, and other valuable items from the players.
As the suspects exited the home, the incident turned violent as the pair of burglars, on the way out the door, shot an unidentified 38-year-old individual who was entering the house at the time.
“As the men were exiting the house through a side door, they encountered a man who was about to enter the house,” police said. “The burglar with the handgun shot him twice.”
It’s unclear if the victim is the homeowner, a player in the game, or just a visitor.
No other injuries were reported, but the suspects were able to flee the scene and remain on the loose, and anyone with information in regards to the incident is encouraged to call a confidential police hotline at 1-800-220-TIPS.
According to a News 12 (ABC affiliate in New York) report, neighbors say poker games at the burglarized home take place weekly. One neighbor said one of the bullets hit her home.
This isn’t the first time a similar incident occurred at the same property. In 2010, two teens robbed a poker game in that home using knives and a pellet gun, but were quickly apprehended.
