The 2024 edition of the WPT Prime Amsterdam Main Event has reached its final day’s play, with only nine of the 1,340 players who started the €1,100 buy-in event with high hopes of becoming a World Poker Tour champion still in the hunt for the title. The bulk of the €1,289,400 prize pool will be awarded on March 22, with €208,095 reserved for the eventual champion.
The 1,340 buy-ins was a massive increase on last year’s WPT Prime Amsterdam Main Event, when exactly 1,000 players bought in. Last year, PhilipPhilip Hollederer Hollederer came out on top and padded his bankroll with €161,552 plus a $10,400 seat to the season-endedWPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas. Hollederer put up a valiant fight during his title defence, reaching the latter stages of Day 2 before busting in 45th place.
This year, it is Vasyl Vasylyshyn who finds himself in pole position and most likely to follow in Hollederer’s footsteps.
Day 2 started with 168 players returning to their seats, each guaranteed €1,767 for the efforts. The field began thinning out within the first few minutes of the dealers being instructed to shuffle up and deal, and 13.5 hours later, only the 12 players remained.

Day 2 was meant to play down to the final table of nine, but the tournament director paused play when Dwayne Sluis bowed out in 13th place, as the player had battled away for 13.5 hours.
Ukraine’s Vasyl Vasylyshyn is the man to catch going into Day 3 on March 22; he is armed with a colossal stack of 12,325,000 chips, or 164 big blinds, at the restart. Vasylyshyn, like the other 11 returning players, is guaranteed €16,580 for his efforts, which is by far his largest-ever live poker score. That honor is currently bestowed on the €4,115 Vasylyshyn banked for an eighth-place finish at the WPT Prime Opener earlier in this series.

Nobody else in the field has an eight-figure stack, although Matin Talebi‘s 8,450,000 chips are the equivalent of 113 big blinds. The 2016 WPT Amsterdam Main Event runner-up Jeffrey Jol (5,825,000), WSOP International Circuit Marrakech champion Max Deveson (4,750,000), and the 2023 Battle of Malta Main Event second-place finisher Raoul Van Wersch (4,425,000) round out the top five.
Play resumes at 12:30 p.m. local time and continues until one man has all the chips in play in front of him. That player will become the WPT Prime Amsterdam champion, receive €208,095 in prize money, and entry to the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas in December.
