Officials unveiled details for the Strip’s annual “America’s Party” New Year’s Eve fireworks show on Wednesday.
Beginning at midnight on New Year’s Day, thousands of fizzing, sparkling rockets will launch from eight casino resort rooftops: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian, Resorts World, and the Strat, according to a news release.
This year, they might be joined by a ninth. Fontainebleau may or may not participate, pending final approval from the Clark County Fire Department.
According to event organizers, more than 12,000 electrical devices will be used to create the eight-minute display, which took 64 hours to choreograph. It will require five solid days to install on the roofs, which will be manned by 66 technicians and more than 90 additional security, engineers, and hotel personnel.
A command center will operate from the off-Strip Rio.
Skyrocketing Visitation
The free show is expected to draw 356,000 visitors on the Strip, officials from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) said.
Co-produced by the New York-based Fireworks by Grucci, this year’s show will include 24 Karat Gold Glitter aerial shells, crossing variegated comets, and multi-colored mines. Some will create shapes in the sky, including a champagne flute and chalice.
The soundtrack to the display, which will be simulcast by KOMP 92.3 FM and 97.FM 1 The Point, will launch with the traditional song “Auld Lang Syne,” followed by pop hits from Mariah Carey, Pink, and Bruno Mars, who some will get to watch live instead, at Dolby Live at Park MGM, on Dec. 31.
Glass and metal containers, coolers, strollers, and any bags larger than 12x12x6 inches are prohibited on the Strip and downtown, per county and city ordinances. That includes backpacks, purses, and luggage.
According to the city of Las Vegas, Interstate 15 off-ramps at Flamingo Road will be closed in both directions at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The Strip will begin to close from Spring Mountain Road to Tropicana Avenue will begin at 6:30 p.m., and close entirely to vehicles by 8 p.m.
The Las Vegas Monorail will be open round-the-clock for New Year’s Eve, offering locals and visitors the only motorized method of transportation along the Las Vegas Strip.
Or Party Downtown Instead…
Once again, the Fremont Street Experience will host an alternative New Year’s Eve party to the Strip’s. It’s “NYE Time of Your Life Festival” will feature live performances on three stages from Third Eye Blind, Blackstreet, Kid n’ Play and others. Fireworks will launch from The Plaza casino hotel at midnight.
